Consciousness is creating flowers of various colors and designs, If I am the consciousness, can I change the color and design of flowers?A: “You” are not the consciousness. You are just a flower. “Colour and design” are just mental concepts.
When the all knowing consciousness creates body and mind, how is it deluded by its own creation of body & mind and becomes limited ego by identification?A: It isn’t deluded. The outward-looking senses of the tentacle make possible misinterpretation of data in terms of separateness. This gives rise to the mental concept of separatism i.e. Ego.
If Eckhart Tolle “seeks to reconcile God and his Creation”, why does he not include animals, the dead bodies of which he obviously eats? He also quotes the Dalai Lama, who “eats meat when he is away from home” because he is “used to it”. If there is an inconsistency in morality there, this might also explain why the questioner wanted to know the following: Is there an inconsistency in Eckhart Tolle’s “God is undifferentiated consciousness” as compared to “Consciousness is part of a sangkhara involving a sense organ and a sense object. If either the sense organ or the sense object is missing, so is consciousness.”A: Issues about “Eckhart Tolle” and the “Dalai Lama” and their eating habits are best raised with those human beings themselves.
What “Eckhart Tolle” understands by “God is undifferentiated consciousness” should be asked of him. Viññāna (trans. “consciousness”) as part of a sangkhara containing a sense organ and a sense object is best understood as the image of a physical object in a mirror. No object, no image. Vijjā means “seeing”. It can be understood as the mirror itself, which exists whether or not it reflects objects. Its significance, when it is not reflecting objects, can be pointed to by words but it needs to be experienced, for example by going in through the centre of the body, through all the spheres which appear —one inside the other— until the stage is reached when there are no more spheres. Entering into this state of “no more spheres” results in the state of Awakening, Vijjā. Although there is no longer any separate being who can claim to be awake.
In Vajras Dorjes you mention that Indra uses a dorje (the deva counterpart of it) to create thunder and lightning. Do you mean lightning on a deva plane or does it include the thunder and lightning on earth too?A: “Thunder and lightning on a deva plane” is entertainment. Similar to us watching the film of the Titanic from an armchair. When it reaches the material plane, it is similar to sitting on the deck as the icy arctic water rises. There are innumerable planes of reality where the conditions vary enormously. Also there are links which enable passage between them. A church, a saint’s bones, a dorje, an antique, a photograph. Even a plant. Think how an acorn pushes out from its exit point from the Centre all the way out into the material world and then stands enormously looking down at you disguised as an “oak tree”.
So Indra uses thunder and lightning to entertain (himself and) other devas, knowing that his lightning might hit living beings on planet earth? That doesn’t sound very compassionate. What I also meant is whether all thunder and lightning comes from the deva plane down to earth or is there also thunder and lightning caused by the natural phenomena described by science? Do Zeus and Thor/Donar also still do the same?A: You are stirring up so many waves that you are in danger of forgetting that you are a wave yourself. All this speculation is just a smoke-haze of thoughts.
Thank you for all your answers, especially the one on Viññāna. I’m deeply sorry for stirring up so many waves (and for their effects). One may compare this body and this mind to a wave. Often, especially in meditation, there isn’t an “I”. The questions arise on the level of thought and there they seem justified. Some things I see, some things I find easy to believe and with others common sense seems to say: Indra, Zeus and unicorns, that’s a bit much – please help me believe. I’ve experienced things many people wouldn’t believe, so I know that much more is possible than one might have thought.A: “…please help me believe.”
“Seeing is believing” but believing is not seeing.
I know. Then help me see the things I cannot yet see.A: Everything is to be found within you. Outside, there is only an infinity of “things” which mask the transformations of the One. No matter how many waves you count, they will never amount to the ocean. This is why the Buddha put as his keystone, the First Noble Truth – Suffering and not knowledge.
Thank you. Everything, everywhere, up to the highest realms is dukkha, even deeper states of meditation, although one sees that they lead one closer to the source and thus less suffering and then no suffering because there is no sufferer. I forget that only when I get into things, which is a terrible mistake. I’m deeply grateful for Buddha-Dhamma and for being reminded of it. Thank you.
After an enthralled read of ‘VAJRAS DORJES’ I wondered is Christ/Jesus more a position than an individual – achieved through the accumulation of merit like Indra to eventually run out?A: Is anyone more an individual than a position? If any camel doesn’t get through the Eye of the Needle, unrelinquished luggage will continue to result in an endless succession of camels.

“Consciousness is part of a sangkhara involving a sense organ and a sense object. If either the sense organ or the sense object is missing, so is consciousness.” Eckhart Tolle says: “God is undifferentiated Consciousness.” Sabbe sankhara anicca; Sabbe sankhara dukkha; Sabbe dhamma anatta… Ergo, God is dukkha? (When thinking stops there seems to be no distinction between consciousness and no consciousness. Does that resolve it and the rest is a question of using certain words and definitions?)A: There are no sangkharas in Nibbana. Therefore, there is no Viññāna:
translated as “consciousness” but involving an object and therefore part of
a sangkhara. The Sanskrit root of Viññāna means “know”. There can be no
knowing without something to be known. In Buddha’s ” Dependent Origination” (q.v.) Vijjā means “seeing” (cognate
with “vision”) and implies the simultaneous arising of understanding
(Wow!!). You quote Eckhart Tolle when he is using “Consciousness” in a way which
seeks to reconcile God and his Creation – the Undifferentiated and the
Differentiated. The Buddha’s Three Characteristics is Buddha’s attempt to enable the
thinking mind to let go of it’s grasping after phenomenal existence (and
with it thinking itself) and revert to the state of no-suffering. (Compare
the “red hot poker”). It is not valid to string the two together and then “deduce” that “Ergo, God
is dukkha”. This is just an unrelated thought which provides no entry point
into Buddha’s Teaching for the salvation of beings. When thinking stops, this needs to be the preliminary step to Vijjā.
Otherwise, the egoic-forming stream of thinking resumes with all its
karma-forming consequences, over and over, again and again. This week’s project is: The Less I Name, the More I See.
Can you say more about centering meditation comparing it with vipassana? With both teachings being so clear what is Eckhart Tolle’s contribution?A:Vipassana is for those who cannot see that thinking is thinking and cannot visualise the sphere and enter the Centre all the way back into Nibbana… E.T. is for those who cannot do Vipassana AND cannot visualise the sphere and enter the Centre all the way back into Nibbana. E.T. is particularly valuable for those who have previously formed a strong link with Jesus’ actual teachings, but have lost sight of them because of the distortions which the “official” churches have subjected them to. ‘Jesus’ actual teachings are the actual things he himself said. These appear in my copy of the New Testament in red. Everything not in red is of interest but not germane.
Why would ‘they’ “like to relate their aqueous situation with basic Buddha-Dhamma and the Centre”? Is it because ‘they’ are trying to make Truth An Add-On for the Ego?A: No-one tries to MAKE TRUTH AN ADD-ON FOR THE EGO.
It is the phantom Egoic mind, the offspring of false identification with mind and body (remember Genesis: “they saw that they were naked”?). This it is that will grasp after anything it perceives as food for itself so that it can continue its phantom existence. Its relationship with the Real Self is a bit like that of a tapeworm with its host.
